New DR-140 production specs

Diedrich Roasters launched the DR-140 in October to handle green coffee batches between 70 and 140 kilograms. This model replaces the CR-140 and closes the brand’s transition away from infrared burner systems in its gas-fired lineup. The DR-140 delivers a maximum hourly output of 560 kilograms (1,232 pounds). The new platform uses advanced airflow control paired with sophisticated automation to ensure more efficient energy transfer to the batch, which supports more predictable roast curves at these larger batch sizes. The redesigned insulated roasting drums and airflow systems provide more controlled movement of heat and air through the bean mass. This equipment also includes more advanced drum speed controls to improve process control and efficiency. The machine’s proprietary, in-house control software relies upon Allen-Bradley controls to manage the roasting process.

Machine support and industry demand

The DR-140 follows the DR-280, which launched in December 2025. Diedrich introduced the DR generation in 2021 with the DR-25, followed by the DR-3 in early 2022 which replaced the IR-1 and IR-2.5. Launtia Taylor, the Diedrich Roasters CMO, says the DR-140 "bridges the gap between artisan-level precision and high-volume industrial throughput." The system includes water-quenching systems for controlled cooling during roasting and provides emergency cooling for the drum, cooler, cyclones and chaff barrels. Diedrich provides programming and support through its engineering and service teams in Idaho and Schaumburg, Illinois. Customers access factory-trained technicians and hands-on training programs through these Diedrich facilities. Although the company no longer produces IR or CR models, it continues to support machines in the field with parts and service. Select newer components also work as upgrades for existing IR and CR machines. Taylor says that the DR-280 has become the workhorse for many companies because it fills a gap in the industry. Buyers of the DR-280 over the past year include midsize and larger commercial coffee and food manufacturers across the United States. One customer with two machines at a single facility bought the DR-280, while another customer recently ordered four machines.
