Editorial Policy

The standards behind The Nova Cafe: accuracy and verification, independence, sources, corrections, testing claims and how we label sample content.

Last updated

Independence

Editorial decisions are made by editors alone. Advertisers, sponsors and companies we write about do not decide what we cover or how. Sponsored material, if any, is clearly labelled.

Accuracy and verification

We check information before publishing it and say where facts come from. When something cannot be confirmed, we say so. We distinguish verified facts from claims made by companies, organisations or people in a dispute.

Prices, markets and data

We do not present coffee prices or market figures as live unless they come from a named data provider with a timestamp. Figures in articles are dated and sourced.

Events and competitions

Event dates, venues and competition results are published only after checking them against the organiser’s official information.

Equipment and products

We describe equipment as tested only when one of our writers has actually tested it, and we explain how. We do not publish invented ratings, star scores or reviews.

Health

We do not make medical claims about coffee. Research on health is reported with its limits and links to the original study where possible.

Sources

We prefer named sources. Anonymity is granted only when a source faces real risk and the information is important to the public, and we explain why a name is withheld.

Images

Photos and illustrations are credited. Generated or illustrative images are labelled and are never presented as documentary photos of a real farm, cafe or person.

Corrections and updates

When we make a factual error we correct it and add a visible note at the top of the article. Articles show when they were published and, after significant changes, when they were updated (in UTC). Requests for corrections can be sent through the contact page.

Breaking news

Stories are marked as Breaking only by an editor, and the label expires automatically.

Sample content

While the site is being prepared, some articles are clearly labelled samples. They describe general topics or hypothetical scenarios and are not news reports; they are removed before launch.
