Privacy Policy

What personal data The Nova Cafe processes, why, for how long, and what choices you have.

Last updated

This policy explains what happens to your data when you read The Nova Cafe, vote in a poll or contact us. We collect as little as possible.

Draft – to be completed before launch: the identity and contact details of the data controller (legal entity, address, email) and, if required, a data protection contact have not been provided yet.

Reading articles

Our web server receives the technical data every website receives (such as your IP address and browser type) in order to deliver pages. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers, and fonts are served from our own server, so reading the site does not send your data to third parties.

To show a “Most read” list we count article views. The count is stored per article and per day only – no IP address, cookie or account is stored with it. To avoid counting the same reader repeatedly, a salted, one-way hash of the connection is kept for up to one hour in temporary storage and then discarded. Your browser also keeps a session-only note (sessionStorage) that you have viewed an article, which is deleted when you close the tab.

Polls

When you vote in a reader poll, we store your answer as part of an anonymous total. To allow one vote per browser, your browser receives a random identifier in a cookie (see the Cookie Policy); we store only a one-way hash of that identifier together with the poll, never your IP address. A short-lived, salted hash of your connection (kept for up to one hour) limits the number of votes from one network.

Contact form

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, topic and message by email so we can reply. The form does not store messages on the website. Emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request. Legal basis: your consent and our legitimate interest in answering readers.

Sharing buttons

The share buttons are plain links. Nothing is loaded from social networks until you click one; the network then processes your data under its own policy.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to processing or to complain to a data protection authority. Contact us through the contact page.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change. The date of the last update is shown at the top.
